Buying Office 2003 Pro

Geri

I’m looking into buying Office 2003 Pro.
Two questions:
1) Microsoft site shows Part # 269-07387, however all other sites show
269-06738. Is there a difference?
2) Checking pricegrabber.com the prices vary from $260 to over $600 for
the full retail version. Are these cheaper sites legit? They say they
sell legitimate & genuine Microsoft products, guaranteed.
Advice please.
Thanks, Geri

Those are usually OEM versions which cannot be used on a different
computer in the future. You should only consider purchasing a
"Retail Version" of Office 2003 which comes in a box and is properly
licensed.

Example:

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16837116142

Carey,

Please note I said "Full Retail Version". To me that's not OEM. The part
numbers also refer to the full version (in a box) not OEM versions.
Please reread my questions and check the list at pricegrabber.com. Your
addition comments are important to me.
Thank you,
Geri

Q. "Are these cheaper sites legit?"

A. As always...Buyer Beware! I have no idea if the low cost sites are legit.
I usually purchase my software from a local store, just in case there is
a problem. Many web sites misrepresent the product, and you could wind up
with a problem.

Even tho you and I know that there is a difference, a lot of those cheap
sites don't pay much attention to that fact. And some deliberately obfuscate
the issue.
