bypass subform in new window?

I finally upgraded one of my customers from Access 97 to Access 2003 (I've
stuck with Access 97 for all other projects and customers, fearing feature
bloat).

So far so good, all appears to operate similar enough to Access 97. Except
one major problem: subforms appear within the parent forms. The space
alotted for working on a subform is terrible, so I am always forced to
right-click on the subform and choose "Subform in new window" (double-click
in Access 97 was easier to design a subform).

The major irritation comes when I use the same subform on multiple parent
forms, (which especially occurs when I am copying similar controls between
parent forms). The second parent form displays the subforms like Access 97,
and then when I double-click I get the message "This form is already being
designed as a subform, use right-click instead" [simplified]. Right-click
Subform in new window then throws me to the other parent form from which I
can finally right-click open subform in new window. And I can NOT flip to
'Form View' in second form when first form has the subforms locked for design
view, so then I have to close first parent form to see second parent form in
'Form View'.

I have a splitting headache trying to manage keeping track of which forms
are open, then resolving the error messages, closing, opening first, design
view.... Argh!

I have searched through all the settings and options to no avail. Can
someone please tell me how I can revert form/subform design functionality to
Access 97? Specifically: how do I disable displaying subforms as design view
within the parent form (when in design view)?

Also, one more significant irritation to disable: How do I disable the
prompt that asks me to save all of the tables/queries/forms/reports that have
changed when I click the 'Save' button? Some of my forms have similar names,
and to have to pick through that stupid prompt box to find the right form
name breaks my concentration when designing, especially when copy/pasting
between forms and I'm trying to keep track of where I'm at.

As is evident by these questions, I concede I don't multi-task very well.
But I find these new 'Features' easily break my concentration.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!
