C and P with filter on pastes to filtered rows

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

With the filter on, I want to copy a block of text from col A to col B. If the block has any filtered/hidden rows, Copy picks up the data I want correctly, but Paste puts it into contiguous rows -- even if some of those rows are filtered/hidden! Not only does this not paste correctly, but it overwrites the filtered data. (This bug was fixed in Excel for Windows about 10 years ago.)

Anybody else have this problem? Anybody solved it?

I might be misunderstanding your steps, but when I follow these steps, I get
the exact same results in Windows Excel 2007:

Put column headers in A1 and B1 and turn on autofilter on them
Enter the following in A2:A10:
a
b
a
b
a
b
a
b
a
Filter Column A to only show the "a"s in the column
Select A2:A10
Command + C to copy
Select B2
Command + V to paste

At this point, I see "a" in the top 3 visible cells in Column B (B2, B4,
and B6). If I now unfilter Column A, I see "a" in the first 5 visible cells
in column B (B2, B3, B4, B5, and B6)

If this is not what you're seeing, can you please clarify?

Thanks,

Pat
