c:\Program Files\SpamBlocker Utility\bin\4.8.60\redemption can not

The above error message began appearing when I opened Outlook just after my
local ISP changed the protection provided from EZArmor to CA Security. It was
determined that the EZ was not completely uninstalled. This was accomplished,
but the error message continued to appear. With the help from CA they
provided a zip file to uninstall their product as well. I can find no
remnants of any spamblocker files, and have used all the techniques suggested
by the previous contributors in this discussion group with no success:I've
done help-detect and repair; Uninstall and reinstall Outlook;
Tools/Options/Other/Advanced Options/Com Ad-in's; again no luck. I am using
XP Office 2000 Professional. The error message in no way interferes with my
using Outlook, nor does it interfere with any other applications- its just
annoying. Any assistance in removing this would be appreciated. Thank you.

1) The error message that you put into the Subject line is truncated.

2) Whatever the full error message is, this does not appear to be an
Outlook problem, but of an incorrectly installed or uninstalled add-on.

3) Can you start Outlook in Safe Mode (Start | Run | type 'outlook
/safe' (without the apostrophes))?

4) Just out of curiosity; that SpamBlocker Utility - is that EZ or CA?

Sorry about that. Here is the entire error message: The add-in "c\Program
Files\Spam Blocker Utility\Bin\4.8.4.0\Redemption.d..." could not be
installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect & Repair
(didn't work) on the Help menu. Unable to load "C:\Program
Files\SpamBlockerUtility\Bin\..." You may be out of memory, out of system
resources, or missing a .dll file".
I tried your suggestion of starting Outlook in the Safe Mode (start/ Run
type 'outlook/safe' without the apostrophes and received the following
message: Windows cannot find 'outlook/safe'. Make sure you typed the name
correctly (I did, and without the apostrophes), and then try again to search
for a file, click the start button, and then click search. You are correct on
both counts with respect to whether it was EZ or CA. It was both, and the
problem started after our local ISP BrightHouse Networks/Roadrunner converted
subscribers from EZ which I'd had through them for several years with no
problems to CA. Its at that point I began to get the error message each time
I opened Outlook. Thank you so much for your quick response. Hopefully,
you'll be able to direct me to a resolution of this nagging problem.

The line break between outlook and /safe in my earlier post made it
unclear that a space was needed: 'outlook /safe'; please try again.

Directory C:\Program Files\Spam Blocker - does it exist at all?

W

I added the space between and the / and this allowed me to open Outlook in
the Safe Mode; however, I am not experienced in navigating Safe Mode and fear
I'll create more problems without your guidance, so I simply closed it down
and returned to the normal start-up without doing anything in the Safe Mode.
What should I have done while in there? Also, I've been reading other posts
on this subject, and one thing I did, which also produced no results is
Tools/Options/Other/Advanced Options/Com Ad-ins and the only thing showing
there is Outlook Synchronization and it is checked.

In response to c:\Program Files\Spam Blocker-does it exist? I could not find
any reference to it.

Thank you for your continuing assistance and PATIENCE.

Sorry, my question was not clear: does the error message also pop up
when you start Outlook in Safe Mode?

So if C:\Program Files\Spam Blocker does not exist, then this is part of
the old add-on, and it was not completely uninstalled.

Go to Tools | Options | tab Other, and click Advanced Options. Click on
COM Add-Ins and/or Add-In Manager, and remove the old add-in that causes
this problem.

Yes, the error message also appears when I start Outlook in the Safe Mode.
When I click on COM Add-ins I still only have one line and the box is
checked: Outlook Synchronization; when I click on Add-In Manager I have (4)
four lines, all of which are checked: 1) Outlook Sync 2) Net Folders 3)
Redemption Helper Outlook Extension 4) Fax Server Extension. I see no
reference to the troublesome error message.
When I close out Safe Mode and return to my normal start-up and open Outlook
the error message is still there.

That "Redemption Helper" thingy - could it be the one that causes the
error? Can you temporarily uncheck it, and see if the error still occurs
(in normal mode)?

Net Folders? Wow! That's an old one and hasn't worked for a long time.
I'd try eliminating it.

Hooray!! That was it!! "The Redemption Helper" thingy as you so eloquently
put it. My wife loved your use of the term "thingy"; we think being not
totally computer literate ourselves that when we rely on a professional such
as yourself that we're expecting a detailed complicated hard to understand
advice. Not so. Thank you again for all your help....

I'll eliminate it as well. Thank you. What about the other two? Do they serve
any useful purpose?

I don't know what the "Outlook Sync" add-in is. The "Fax Server Extension"
is obviously part of the fax software you have installed. I can't speak to
the former, but I doubt the latter would cause problems. However, if you
don't need it, remove it.
