Calculate a date

Alex Hammerstein

Hi
I am creating letters, and it would be great to be able to automatically set
a date.

The date needs to be in dd/mm/yyyy form at and needs to calculated to be the
last day of the current month + 6 months.

Has anyone any ideas please

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex:

This is not as easy as it "should" be, because Word lacks a Julian date,
which you need for this kind of thing.

You have to work with the individual Day, Month, and Year components of your
date.

It's explained here:
http://addbalance.com/word/datefields2.htm

Cheers

Hi John

Thanks for that, I now have that working. One very small issue is that when
we load up the document, the date firld doe not always update. Is there a
way to force that

Many thanks
Alex

Hi Alex:

No, you can't force "Update Fields on Open" without using a macro. They
removed that functionality from a number of the fields.

You CAN set an option to update fields on Print, it's in the
Word>Preferences>Print...

Word has three "kinds" of fields ‹ hot, warm, and cold.

Hot fields update dynamically and continuously: LISTNUM is an example.

Warm fields update on Open (and some update on Save). The Date and Time
fields are amongst them.

Cold fields must be manually updated. SEQ and XREF fields are examples.

I *DO* wish they would put this information in the Help (or rather: put it
BACK in the Help where it used to be...)

Cheers
