What would the formula be to calculate the number of
months between 2 dates?

The usually-undocumented function

=DATEDIF(date1,date2,"m")

will return the difference in months.

Chip provides an excellent explanation of the DATEDIF function. DATEDIF is
available to all XL versions, but is only shown, I believe, in XL 2000 help
file.
