Calculated controls HELP????

I am having trouble setting one up. Help is not useful

I have a list in a sub-report in my main report that I need to total. It shows when someone was assigned and how many. I need to calculate how many altogether

Is there also a way to only show on the report the last month? if so does anyone know how to do this
