calculated fields in pivot tables

Brad Autry

Hi,

I have a fairly simple pivot table whose rows consist of various job post
sources.

So, for my small example, let's say the rows are

Monster.com
Careerbuilder.com
Internal Posting
Employee Referral

The columns consist of a count of the sources to see how many jobs were
posted to them respectively, a sum of how many applicants were from each
source, and a sum of those hired from each source.

I would like to create calculated fields that will show a like a yield rate
for each posting source. So if there were, say, 3000 posts to Monster, 2000
people applied, and 1000 people hired, I'd like calculated fields to show a
..666 application rate, .333 hire rate.

I could just make the formula outside the pivot table. I read there could
be problems in doing so, though. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.
