Calculated Total

I have an enterprise outline code for the project's current phase. I want a
Pie Chart with a slice representing the number of projects in each phase.
I'm trying to set up a Calculated Total/Field, to count the projects by
phase.

I currently have the Pie Chart with work by phase, and it works correctly,
but can't figure out how to merely count them (instead of work).

Does this feature work with text fields instead of numbers? What's the
command and syntax to Count?

Are there any reference books that explain using MDX specific to this
feature in Project Server?

You could use an Enterprise Project Number field. Enter a 1 in it for each
project. In the OLAP Cube, you can then present the total of this field for
all projects of each phase.

Thanks for the idea. I tried this using an Enterprise Outline Code so it
ends up in the OLAP cude (as Enterprise Custom Fields do not, unless I'm
missing something). Then, I can't drop the field into the Drop Totals or
Detail Fields Here, only into a row or column. So I'm back to the basically
same problem, in trying to count the new Outline code with a Calculated Total
(as I know they'll drop into the Drop Totals area), and don't know the
syntax. It seems like any calculation I try with a Field (not a total)
returns an error.

I noticed that my Create Calcualted Detail Field is not available. That may
be the answer, but I don't know what's behind it.

I also don't like using an Outline Field, as it required the PM to maintain
it merely as a counter. At least with a custom number field, it's
transparent, but not in the OLAP cube.

Any other ideas?

Woops! Sorry, I've been working a lot recently with Portfolio Analyzer
Extender, so I am spoiled by the ability to include any field in the OLAP
cube.

I haven't figured out a way to get what you want in PA without an extension.
Once you export to a Pivot Table, of course, you can use a count function.
