CALCULATING MINUTES AND HOURS

E

EDDIE SPENCE

can you please provide a formula for adding a time - hour -
(e.g. 05.30) in one cell to a number of minutes in an
other (e.g. 30) and produce an accumulative time in the
the third cell. All cells will be in the one line either
horizontally or vertically.

Thank you

Hi Eddie!

A1
5:30
B1
0:30
C1
=A1+B1

All cells formatted h:mm But if you are dealing with durations rather
than clock times you may be better advised to format all cells [h]:mm

I just want to point out that the other suggested solutions require that the time that includes
hours and minutes, that you show as 5.30, must be entered with a colon, -- 5:30 -- not a period.
If you enter with a period, it's just a number, 5 + 30/100; if you enter it with a colon it's
converted to a time -- a fraction of a day, i.e. 5.5/24.
