calculus in excel

are there any calculus functions in excel? I need to find
a point on a curve created by my scatterplot tangent to a
point on my x axis

Euan,

No, not built-in, but you could roll your own using VBA or multiple
worksheet functions. You can calculate the slope given a function or a set
of points, and for a tangent to the x-axis, look for both a slope and a
value of zero (or as near as you need).

It can be considerably more difficult than you imply to find the slope of an
underlying function at a given point given only a few other points from the
graph of that function. See
