Calendar and Resource Usage - MSP 2003

Hello,

I am using 9 hrs calendar for a resource "X". I have assigned a task to this
resource and I am viewinginformation in Resource Usage in MSP 2003. I noticed
a strange behaviour. On a day the resource is showing overloading (in red
color). When I viewed in work window of the same Resource Usage page it hasnt
exceeded 9 hrs but displaying red there too! What might be the problem?

Thanks

Hello,

Sorry I missed one more point above. I mean to say I am using 9 hrs
calendar and work assigned to a resource is 7 hrs but the resource is
highlighted in red, in Resource Usage Sheet. I checked the Remaining work it
displays 2 hrs, which is correct then why is it displaying in red is my
concern!

Could anyone tell me what might be the problem?

Thanks

Have you got another assigment for that resource on the same day? If a
resource has two 1 hour tasks on two separate projects, both scheduled to
start at 9.00 (the default), then the resource will show as overloaded as
both task clearly cannot start at 9.00. If you are loading summary resource
assignments then you can see this behaviour.

Hello Gary,

I did zoom hourly wise. I have some doubts:

I have assigned the resource calendar with hrs working from 8.30 to 1 and
1.30 to 6pm. But when I did zoom. It is displaying from 8 to 5.

As per the calendar it shoudl display 8.30 to 6. also how will I know the
lunch break?

Thanks

Hello Ben,

So it means time conflict when more than one task start at a time. So how do
we get rid of this?

Thanks

Helo Ben ,

If its not overallocateed can we ignore this time conflict or will it lead
to some orther problem or confusion later.

Thanks

That's the only way to find out. If you can't see it, I can't help you. Do
know this, it's not worth driving yourself crazy trying to level
overallocations that occur in one day when the total work does not exceed
the resource capacity, unless you have a need for hour-by-hour scheduling.
