Calendar default question

Outlook 2002. When a meeting invitation is sent the invitation is received. However, it does not appear on the recipient's calendar until they preview or open it. Note that they do not have to respond just preview it. Is this Outlook's default behavior? Is it possible to change this so that the invitation appears on the calendar regardless of whether or not the invitation is viewed or opened?

DId you set the "Automatically accept meeting requests and process cancellations" option?
