Calendar Event not appearing:"This is an update to a recurring event that has not been responded to

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel
Email Client: Exchange

A Calendar Event is not appearing in my calendar. When I look at the invitation, I see the message:

This is an update to a recurring event that has not been responded to yet. To respond to this event, first respond to the original invitation

However, I cannot respond to the original because that was sent to me ages ago and I accepted it when I was still using Outlook on Windows. So now what am I supposed to do?

In Entourage 2008 you can open the first event and still click the
Accept button. If that doesn't work for you then ask the meeting
organizer to resend the event to you and delete the first one.
