Calendar Events - signatures appearing in notes

H

HeidiMac

I see this question has been brought up many times before - I can see
going back to 2004. I experienced the problem with Microsoft
Entourage 2004, but I just lived with it. One of the primary reasons
I upgraded to Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 was to GET RID OF THIS
BUG. And yet it remains.

Here is the question - copied from a previous post because the problem
is EXACTLY THE SAME.

"I have several signatures, of which a couple are set up to use
automatically
when creating outgoing messages from certain accounts. When I open
certain CALENDAR EVENTS, their Notes contain one of my default
signatures."

If I remove the signature and save the event, the next time I open it,
it reappears.
If I rebuild the database, the signature still appears.
If I change the default account, the signature still appears.

I am TIRED of living with this problem. When I have an actual NOTE
that matters to me, it only appears AFTER all the signature garbage.

I'm trying to find an answer for you. I don't remember this coming up
before. Can you post the subject for the other posts that you are referring
to?

Here are previous threads I saw. I do use a POP account, but not an
Exchange account. AND I have rebuilt my database MANY times over the
years, but the problem persists. - Heidi

Subject: calendar/signature bug?

I have several signatures, of which a couple are set up to use
automatically
when creating outgoing messages from certain accounts for example,
my
signature below is automatically created when I send a message to
this
newsgroup.
I have noticed a strange bug (?), whereby, when I open certain (only
recently created? not sure) CALENDAR EVENTS, their Notes contain one
of my
default signatures, which is, obviously, a minor nuisance. What on
earth
could be telling Entourage to do this? I have never even heard of
signatures being somehow associated with calendar events. Has anyone
seen
this? Thanks for your help.

I am experiencing the same problem and I was not able to fix it by
rebuilding the database. However, I did discover something
interesting.
* I have a default signature for my Exchange account. When the
Exchange is
selected as the default account (tools -> accounts), the mysterious
signature does not appear in calendar entries.
* When another account (POP or IMAP) is selected as the default
account, the
signature appears in many calendar entries. What appears is the
default
signature from the Exchange account.
* I have created signatures for the POP account, but it does not
change the
behavior.
So the only work-around I have found so far is to keep the Exchange
account
as the default account.
Thanks,
John

It is possibly an early sign of mild database corruption.
Office vX:
Hold down the option key when starting Entourage and take the first
option
('typical rebuild'). If this doesn¹t resolve the problems, then try
an
ŒAdvanced Rebuild¹.
Office 2004:
You still call the rebuilder by holding down Option key at launch, but
it
now brings up a separate app "Database Utility" (which could be
launched by
double-clicking of you wish) that lives in the Office subfolder.
First of all, if you have any Office apps open, a dialog comes up
that
offers to quit them.
Then you get a window with a list of your identities to select from,
and
four options:
1) It has a new feature "Verify database integrity" option: this
should
reduce unnecessary rebuilding. Apparently it's quite sensitive. And
see 4)
below.
2) "Compact the database". (Like X's "Typical rebuild").
3) Rebuild the database. (Like X's "Advanced Rebuild")
4) "Set database preferences". Actually there's only one pref: you
can turn
on "Verify database in background "which means "run automatically" and
let
you know if your database needs rebuilding.

Subject: Signatures appearing in Calendar Events

Each time I open a calendar event in Entourage X, one of the many
³Random²
quotes I have in my Signature file is pasted into the Notes field in
the
lower window. Each successive opening of the same event file displays
a
different signature replacing the one before. Other notes I have
entered are
not affected, so this is not a problem per se, but it is curious.
Thanks,
Royce

Thanks for the previous examples.

When you imported your 2004 Identity into Entourage 2008 did you experience
any problems?

I'm wondering if you created a new Identity in Entourage 2008 if the problem
would go away. If you do decide to start fresh, I would set Entourage to
leave mail on server for your Accounts until you are sure you want to stick
with the new Identity. We can discuss moving your other data over if the new
Identity solves the problem.

Ugh. that sounds like a lot of work! Not sure I WANT to start fresh.
I'll have to think about that!

I guess I could set up an experimental new identity and play with it a
little to see what happens - without touching any of my old stuff.

Exporting as Entourage archive (.rge) file is a pretty quick way to move
your data over. Let me know if this helps.
