Calendar hogging CPU

When I add an event to the calendar with a reminder, my
CPU usage jumps to 60-70% and stays there. The task
manager shows OUTLOOK.EXE to be using the CPU time.

How can I avoid this?

I have a Hyper-threading Pentium 4 processor.
