Calling PerformSaveOperation() outside the OnSaveRequest() function handler

I need to programatically save a form from within jscript code but get an
error message indicating that PerformSaveOperation(9 is not allowed when
calling it from the OnSubmitRequest() function Handler.

I'm running in security level 2.

Any ideas abolut how this can be done?
