Can a custom WSS template be used?

We have a user that wants to add certain things onto a
subweb and have that same look and feel for each project
subweb for a particular effort. Can a custom WSS template
be used for subwebs created for a specific project? As
the subwebs already have a Project template applied - will
we break things with Project Server if a custom template
is used?

Katie,
I just posted about this same topic and also just found an answer.... See
the thread above entitled "Defining SharePoint Sites." I think this will
help you.

To answer your question - Making this change will not affect any currently
published project schedules or their associated Sharepoint sites - however,
setting this new default template will affect all future published schedules
as their respective SharePoint sites will be based on this new, customized
template.

I would like to create a template, but not use it as the
default template. I have a few projects that want to use
this - any idea on how to use it in that manner? (i.e.
selectively rather than by default)
