can a database stand alone?

I would like to know if there is a way for me to make a
database that does not require having Access installed to
run. I have Access 2002. I basically just want to throw
together a contact list for a USB flash drive. Since I do
not know if the computers I use it on have Access, I would
liket o make it so that is not a concern. I would not
need to change any layout, just enter data as the need
arises once it is done. I have 256MB on the card, if spce
is a concern. PLease let me know.
THanks in advance for any help.

The only way to distribute an ACCESS database that doesn't require ACCESS to
be installed on the user's computer is to make a "runtime" file using the
Office Developer Edition, which contains a version of ACCESS that allows
this.

Sorry, no. The only way to run an *Access* database application is to have
Access installed on the PC. This Access installation can be the full
version or the
"run-time" version.

If you have Microsoft Office Developer's Version, you can create an
installation package that can install the Access "run-time" files
(royalty-free) with your database on the target PC.

Actually, "stand-alones", whether Access or something else, hardly exist
nowadays anyway.
