Can a shape be predefined with a layer

When I start up af new document it will be without layers, which is how I
wan't it.
When I pick a shape from a stencil(I have many different homemade stencils),
I would like the shape to create it's own layer eg. "fire equipment". I have
perhaps 15 different shapes with relations to fire equipment - they should
all start up this layer.
Though, when I put no.2. "fire equipment" shape into a document then it
should not create af new layer, just merge into the the allready created
layer.

Layers can be predefined in the 'master' shapes. Visio help discusses how to
edit a 'stencil' 'master'.
