Can a template change keyboard shortcuts and how to prevent that?

I am using an external word template (by Springer - see word.zip found
here:
http://www.springeronline.com/sgw/cda/frontpage/0,11855,5-164-2-72376-0,00.html)
to write a technical paper.

What drives me nuts is, that somehow this template must be reassigning
keyboard shortcuts. E.g. the key Ctrl-F normally triggers the
find-dialog, but while editing this document instead it triggers the
Bold function (i.e. if something is selected while hitting Ctrl-F the
text is converted to bold). This is MOST TEDIOUS!!!

Are keyboard shortcuts stored with a document? Or with a template? This
is brain-damaged!!! Can one prevent this and/or make Word ignore these
reassignments?

First thing to check is to open the Template (not a document based on the
template but the template) and check under Tools, Options, General tab that
the WordPerfect Options are DESELECTED. That screws the keyboard shortcuts.

Yes a template stores keyboard shortcuts (among other things). For
more, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/customization/WhatTemplatesStore.htm

To restore Word's default keyboard shortcuts, do the following: Make
sure a document based on the template is open, and display the
Customize Keyboard dialog box. Make sure the correct template is
displayed in the "Save changes in" box and then click the Restore
button.

You can use the shortcut organizer at
http://www.chriswoodman.co.uk/Shortcut Organizer.htm to see what shortcut
reassignments are in the template and delete them.
