Can a web counter be XHTML complient??

Folks,

Does anyone know a way to make the FrontPage webcounter componant XHTML
complient? By default the componant does NOT insert the ending "/" that XHTML
wants to see at the end of each image tag and if I modify the tag in code
view FP changes it back when the page is saved.

Any ideas? Is there a template for these componants somewhere that could be
changed?

Thanks,
Michael Lynch

Michael,
Unfortunately no. The Hit Counter began life simply as a n example
in an old version of the FrontPage Software Developer's Kit (SDK). There was
such high demand that in the next FP version it was integrated, though it is
still a seperate executable. I believe this was around the timeframe where
HTML 4.0 was being ratified but support wasn't there yet so it only worked
with HTML 3.2.

Hope this helps,

Honestly web counters in any form just shout out amateur. If you know enough
about the web to know about XHTML you'd probably either realise why a web
counter isn't a good idea or be able to find one that passes validation. Do
you actually
a/ have to have a web counter
b/ have to pass XHTML validation

If so you'd probably need a server side solution, I'd bet there's a free
script out there that would do the job.
