Can access Word documents after restoring from a cd-r

I have many documents which were backed up on a CD-R. this is my own home
machine..only users are me, my wife and son. I had to reformat my hard drive
last week, and have now finished reinstalling all the factory software and
office XP. I then did a restore from the CD-R and all the documents appear
to have been restored, but when I attempt to open them they say "user access
denied". Is there a way to fix this..can I as the Admin. on my machine grant
open access to all documents?...anything to be able to access my documents
again would be greatly appreciated.

Use Explorer to show the folder(s) containing the documents. Select them
all. Right-click. Clear the 'Read-only' checkbox. You can do this in one go
for entire folders with all their contents including sub-folders.

I did as you said in clearing the read only box for documents and settings
and all subdirectories and folders, but it had no effect on my problem. It
says "access Denied" if I try to open the user folder that contains the
documents, and if I try to open one from inside Word, it say's "User does not
have access priveliges". I sure hope someone has the answer to this. I
really need these documents.

Thank You Garfield....that did the trick...had been told about "taking
ownership", but was baffled by the missing security tab...turning off simple
file sharing was the key.
