Can anyone tell me the process for subforms?

I have a databease with connections to external data. I have created form
with subforms. When printing to Adobe PDF printer, queries keep running over
again. Is this because the main form runs the query for each grouping against
the subforms?

In other words, I group the main form on managers, then a subform is group
on AD groups and 2nd subform on main form is grouped on AD group permissions
to files. Do each of the subform queries run for each group and then update
the main form?

Hope this makes some kind of sense....
