Can automatic updates be changing my spellcheck dictionaries

My spellcheck dictionary seems to be changing, not recognizing words that I
use every day and have used for a long time. If I restore my system to an
earlier time it seems to work fine and then all of a sudden it starts doing
the same thing. I am wondering if an automatic update is changing something
in my dictionary.

Is the correct language applied to text? Did you turn off the auto-detection
of languages in Word?

Auto detection of languages is not turned off. I use medical terminology
and have a medical dictionary installed.

You'll probably find that disabling auto language detection will help.
