Can basic color palette be changed in conditional formating

I wish to change the back color in response to a condition. However in
conditional formating (CF) it appears I have to use one of the 48 basic
colors. I wish to use a custom color but there is no facility in CF. Does
anyone know of a method of changing the colors in the basic palette?
