Can corrputed PST files be reparied by Adminstrators for users?

I manage several large file servers where users sometime store their PST files.
Backup Exec has recognized that a couple are corrputed.

Can an Administrator run SCANPST to repair the problem for the user or does
it have to be done by the user/owner? Will SCANPST change anything internal
to the file related to security based upon who runs it?

Scanpst.exe needs to be run locally on the machine where the .pst file
resides, not over a network. It doesn't affect any security attributes for
the file.

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately, this leads to a different question:
I don't have office installed on my file servers.
Will ScanPST.exe run standalone? If I put a copy of it temporarily on the
server to fix the problem, will I need a bunch of dlls?

A better question: Is this something that I can do for my users without
installing Office on my eneterpise file servers?

Will SCANPST from Office 2003 fix PST files create by Office 2000 or Office
XP?
