Can do I insert jpegs in a mail merge?

Trying to merge information from excel into word, when a field refers to 1 of
6 different types of learning format we have a jpeg symbol that we want to
represent it. Anyway of inserting a jpeg instead of the actual word?

One of our guys said they thought you can create your own font, but I'm
having trouble finding help on that too.
