can Excel 2004 remember file location?

OS X 10.3.9 running Office 2004

Word 2004 remembers the location of the last file opened. So does Excel for
Windows.

Is there a way to configure Excel 2004 so that file/open goes to the last
folder accessed?

thanks

Sorry I misunderstood what you were actually looking for, but AFAIK _all_
office apps (PC or Mac) look to the location set as the default when first
launched.

All other Office apps stay focused on the current folder except Mac:Excel
2004. However, if you delete the Default file location: path, Excel will
behave like the others.

It does indeed. Many thanks!

Microsoft, if you're listening: This is a bug. Default file location and
most-recently-used file location are two different concepts, and there's no
reason the latter should work only when the former is not defined. Indeed,
no other Office app, either on Mac or Windows, links the two functions.
