Can grow / shrink

I have an If...Then statement in a MS Word Document.

If a Merged field is True, it will display a certain
sentence. If false, it will not display it. The sentence
is about 4 lines in size.

If false, then there is a big ugly gap in the middle of my
page. Is there a way to set the document so that the
bottom paragraph will 'butt' up with the previous
paragraph even though there's a hidden If...Then statement
in the middle?

Normally, this is exactly how I'd expect Word to deal with an
"empty" If/Then...

1) Which version of Word are we dealing with?

2) Are you setting the fields into table cells, frames or
text boxes?

3) Do you have a Vertical Alignment other than "Top" set in
File/Pages Setup/Layout?

This is what should happen by default. Can you be more speficic about what
is in your IF field? (And which version of Word are you using?
