can i add additional data source by modifying say myschema.xsd?

I tried to add some additional fields through modifying myschema.xsd file,
but when I open up the form template for design, the new fields didn't show
up in the data source list.

Is it possible to do so? or did I miss anything to modify in order to make
it work?

Yes, it is possible to modify the .xsd and have fields show up in the data
source. If you open the template in InfoPath and don't get any errors, it
means that the changes you made did not "break" anything. After adding the
field elements, did you also add a reference to them under the <xsd:element
name="myFields"> node in the .xsd?
