can i assign values to a shape and calculate them

i am considering buying visio but one important requirement would be the need
to assign values to a shape e.g. £100 and accrue a total from those shapes
each time they are introduced to the worksheet.

Has visio got this capability ?

can you apply a custom values to shapes, yes. Can you accumulate totals
based on this, only if you write the code (it is not a standard function).
There are examples of how to accomplish this on MSDN.

An embedded Excel report could do this with the standard reporting tool,
without programming, just using the refresh
