I would like to attach notes to E-Mails and Calendar items. Just like if it
was on paper and I wanted to add a sticky note.

You can. Open the message and choose Edit-> Edit Message. You can now add
text to it or even an attachment like an Outlook Sticky Note.

Thank you for responding but I don't see how to know there is a note. No
icon is present like in other windows programs. I'm thinking of Excel. When
you add a note there is a little red triangle in the corner of the cell, and
all you have to do to see it is run your curser over it.

How about flagging the message? You can enter a custom message then as well
(right click the flag column-> Add Reminder-> Flag To: type custom message.
There is no need to actually add a reminder but might be helpfull for follow
up ;-)

Nice... but the Flag To: is way to compact. Sometimes it's really helpful to
Add *NOTES* to a message. In the past I've used the Journal... drag a
message to the Journal icon and then written macros to look-up Journel
entries based on the the message selected (why isn't this built-in in an
easily accessible way)?

There are soooooo many ways to make Outlook a really good PIM.... something
it hasn't endeavored to improve upon in over 6... when it beat out superior
PIM's (like Lotus Organizer) by doing Messaging really well. Outlook "could
have been great." But, as with IE (and its innovation stagnation for 5
years), MS has actually (unfortunately) proven the detrimental effect of
crushed competition.

All those dolts I disagreed with 6 or 7 years ago were proven right.
