Can I change appearance of Microsoft Outlook?

I am using Microsoft Office 2007 and is there a way to change the appearance
of Outlook when you open it, i.e. change color of borders, change theme,
download themes etc.? It seems the only color available is light blue. Also
when I open an e-mail with pictures there is always red "X's" where photos
should be. Is there a setting where I can allow images to appear within
e-mail messages?

which OS?

black is also an option. From word, click on the office orb (formerly the
File menu) and select word options. change the color scheme for office apps
from the popular tab.

do the picture placeholders say 'to download the image you need to click
here'?

Thanks Diane, your response really helped. I didn't think I would have to go
into Word to change the colors and black is indeed better than blue. Sorry,
I should have mentioned my OS which is XP SP2. With respect to those red
"X's" which appear in my messages - If I left click on red X, nothing happens
but if I right click mouse I get a menu and one of the options is to
"download picture" which brings up the pictures and then it asks me if I want
to "save" the message with opened pictures. I'm not sure why Outlook is
doing this as it didn't happen in Outlook Express. Is there something in
settings which will automatically bring up images in an incoming message
without having to right click the red X and download picture? Thanks again

outlook blocks downloadable elements (usually images) as a security
measure - not only to prevent things like porn from displaying, but also to
block web bugs so the sender can't see if you viewed the message.

when you right click, there should be a menu for options - or go to tools,
trust center, automatic download - you can control it from there.

I think something happened a few weeks back as now all my HTML headers
in a message show as red X's with no option to let the sender be trusted
to fix this (as used to happen). I am using 2007. I have tried all the
Trust settings possible and compared a laptop with identical Office Pro
2007 as well as Vista 32 Ultimate. The laptop doesn't have the red X
problem yet the main computer does. Freaking annoying!
