I basicially need 1 circle with a quarter of its line a different colour to
the rest. i can change the colour of the whole circle by clicking format
autoshape.

i've tried making an arc to put on top of the circle but i can't seem to
make it fit exactly.

as far i know, i'm using word 2003.
please hlp!

Word's limited graphics editing tools don't provide that capability.

About the best you can do is create 4 arcs, rotate 2 of them, position them
to look like a circle (use Ctrl+ArrowKey to nudge), color the one you want,
then group them.

An arc on top of a circle ought to work. You can size and position both
elements precisiely via the Format Autoshape Dialog - I just tried it and it
works for me (in the drawing canvas).
