Can I compact or reduce the size of data files?

Brian

I use Outlook 2003 and am re-installing it on to my new laptop and want to
bring over the pst and archive file from my current system.
Before I do that I wanted to see if I could make them smaller in size. To
save space and make backups quicker.

My exsisting pst file is 327 meg and my archive file is 123 meg. These are
quite large and I wanted to know if there is a way to reduce the size of
these data files without deleting information, emails, etc within the data
files.

I tried using the compact files tool but it did not change the file size in
any way, which surprised me because I thought that was what it was supposed
to do.
Was I wrong in assuming this?
Is there another method to reduce these data file sizes?

I appreciate any assistance with this.

Hey Brian,

once again.
400Meg isnt big for a pst file.
You could archive your mails and dont import the archive.pst.
So your real pst wont too big!
Maybe this is a help!
