Can I copy a doc to a DVD-R?

I have a blank, writable dvd and using the E drive. After I select the file
and try to do this, I keep getting the message: Windows encountered a
problem when trying to copy this folder. What do you want Windows to do?

Don't try to save from Word directly to the DVD, or a CD, etc. Save to
the hard drive, then use your DVD burning software to copy it to the
DVD.

I tried to save to the hard drive, and burn to a DVD, with another program,
but the file was "corrupted", or mangled, in the process. There must be an
easier answer; or, Office has a problem that my old Smith-Corona Manual
didn't have for mangling carbons!

If the original document opens ok from the hard drive, and it really is
corrupted on the DVD, then your argument is with the (unnamed) DVD burning
software or the hardware, not with Word.

How did you determine that the file on the DVD was corrupted? And what happens
if you copy the file from the DVD to another location on the hard drive and try
to open it from there?
