I would like to copy or move .pst files off my hard drive onto CD's that I
can access from outlook if I need to. Can and how do I do this?
Outlook demands write-access to the .pst file. Why? Because you may
commit an action within Outlook that requires updating the items in that
message store. All files on CD media are read-only. So you will have
to copy the .pst file off the CD onto the hard drive and then remove the
read-only attribute from that file.
I haven't played with UDF (where the rewritable CD looks like a big
floppy). You would need to install 3rd party software to support UDF in
write-access mode (and not just for read-access mode). Roxio comes with
DirectCD and Nero comes in InCD to provide read/write UDF support.
Again, you would have to test if Outlook can access the .pst file on a
UDF-supported drive.
Since you want to write to the message store, what's the point of saving
it on a rewritable CD to access it there via UDF? Obviously it won't be
a backup copy if you are writing to it.
