Can I disable the encryption in a document?

I encrypted a document but now don't want it encrypted. Is there a way to

Go back through the same steps you used to encrypt it, and blank out the
password field. Then save the document.

or, on 2007, Office Button > Prepare > Encrypt Document) and clear the
password box.
