Can I get the roadmap?

Greetings,

Ok, I think my current frustration is based on the fact that most of the
book resources I am using for MS Project and Project Server (i.e. Chevetz &
Howard and others) is that the focus is on the "what" and much less on the
how. I'm also enought of a novice that I have many why questions as well.
Example: Enterprise Resource Outline Codes. I have managed to create some,
but how and where to use them in a "best practice" is not real apparent to
me.
In order to do summary reporting, pivot tables, timesheets, etc. I
understand you need these codes. Once created though, how do you apply them?
Do you need the outline code as a column in the resource sheet for each
resource and again in the project plan itself? Maybe this should be obvious
but its not. Most small companies are not using multiple additional custom
fields in project plans. Once the columns are added is that all that is
required for getting results in Project Central in Analyzer? I need real
examples, not of the end results but the process to get there. Can anyone
offer a suggestion?

Thanks,
Terry Montgomery

Those are good questions, Terry. The answers are best understood throught
conversation, I believe. I could write a lot of words, but you'd likely
still have more good questions. If you want to contact me offline, I'd be
happy to give you a call and talk it over.

Terry:

The "how" you're reaching for is the particular to your organization's
specific need. We can't over-emphasize that these provide the ability for
you to tailor the output of the system to your organization's specific
needs. Otherwise, Project Server views, and the Analyzer in particular, are
fairly boring and don't add much value. The best practice is to analyze the
needs of the organization and to seed the database with corresponding custom
fields and outline codes.
