After the .ttf file is on your computer somewhere, right-click its
name and choose Install.

Yes.

Word will work with any font installed on your PC that the current printer
is capable of printing. There are thousands of fonts available at all prices
from free to bespoke. Uusually you get what you pay for. Try Google.

As Graham says, Word uses the fonts that are installed in Windows; these are
used in all Windows programs and can be printed by virtually any desktop
printer you would buy today.

If your font selection in Word is extremely limited, it may be that you
didn't install all the fonts supplied with Word/Office. See
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/fonts/ to get a list of the fonts
supplied with your particular version (as well as with some non-Microsoft
products). If you see fonts listed that are not available to you, then rerun
setup in Office to add the additional fonts (they'll be among the "shared"
features).

As Graham also says, many fonts are available free (google for "free
fonts"), but often you get what you pay for. If there is a specific font you
see that you like, and if you can ascertain the name of the font, you can
then search for a source for that font and find out how much it costs (some
are quite reasonable--less than $5--while others are "expert" fonts costing
much more).
