Can I install the Office 2000 Service Pack 3 with just SR1 (not 1a?)

I hope someone can help. I have Office 2000-SR1 installed
on my WIN98SE system, and I have not upgraded to Windows
2000. According to the notes on SR1, I don't need SR1A
(only those who upgrade do).
Now when I get to SR3, it tells me "you need SR1-a". So my
question is - do I plow ahead and install the Office 2000
Service Release 3 ?

Thanks for helping a confused user!

Plow ahead.
You are just confused by a confusing Microsoft note.
The only differences between Office 2000 SR-1 and SR-1a was a change in the
installer to fix some problems with some NT installations. As you have SR-1
installed, you can install subsequent changes.

Thanks Don. And one more question if you can help... -
should I install Windows Installer 2.0 (I don't remember
installing this one released 09/2001) BEFORE proceeding
with SR3 or will the installer be included?

Not sure if add comments for new post/reply post at the
bottom is the recommended way to do this news group
either!

Many thanks Sitarra

Sorry, you are stretching my memory too far as to if the Windows Installer
is included as part of SR-3 {if needed}. IMO, I would update the installer,
install SR-2 and the install SR-3 with a reboot between each step.

Perhaps, others can be more specific on the installer question.

THanks Don for the advice! . I have now read the UPDATE
folder under Office in this news group and I see now that
there are tremendous problems people are having updating
the software to SP3 and to the new security patches. I'm
going to chill for a little while to see what happens.
Seems like a giant mess, and not much coming from
Microsoft to help. !
(did you have any trouble with SR3 or the security
patches?)
