Can I install XP Office 2003 SP3?

D

Daylene

I am having so many problems with my Outlook sending email with attachments.
I can receive and send mail, but not with attachments. (have Office 2003 on
XP) I have used the Microsoft prompts for all current updates and the only
SP recommended is SP1. In reading it looks like SP3 may help but this is not
something that comes up for me. Since this SP cannot be uninstalled is this
OK to download? I have done everything else I know to do for making Outlook
work (looked into virus scan, firewall, spyware, reinstalled, email account
settings). Thank you. Daylene

There is no Office 2003 SP-3. SP-2 is currently in testing so Microsoft has
not even developed a SP-3 for Office 2003.

There is "Office XP SP3" (OK, I included 2003), but there is a download page
that reads "Office XP SP3"

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...fd-6f69-4289-8bd1-eb966bcdfb5e&displaylang=en

If you read this page there is a SP1 and SP2. SP3 says you do not need SP1
or SP2 to download SP3. The prompt only recommended SP1 ... why? Why not
get the most recent? THIS is my question.

The link you provided is for Office XP. None of the Office XP service packs
are required for nor will they install in Office 2003. For Office 2003 there
is currently only one service pack: SP-1.

Service packs from Microsoft {and the similar from others} are sometime
cumulative so you need only install the latest and sometimes not and you
must install in order. You need to read the directions for the update and
try not to confuse apples and oranges. Most of the time {but not always}
when you install a service pack type update that is not cumulative, you will
get a configuration error message if you try to install a newer service pack
without installing the prior one.

Thank you Don. That's why I'm checking here before I download anything. I have installed all the recommended and available updates and I am trying to troubleshoot my Outlook problem. When searching the knowledge base with the error messages I get, none of the solutions are working. Thank you again.

What is your Outlook error message? Starting with the problem rather than
trying for a sledgehammer solution is usually best. Post the entire error
message you get and with what version, XP or 2003?
