Can I lock the format but not the data?

Is it possible to lock formatting such as background colour and borders,
but still be able to change the data in cells?

I have rows that are different colours, but when I fill down with a new
formula or other data, they all take on the colour of the original cell.
I only want to fill down the contents, not the way it looks.

Thanks.

Try "paste special" from the edit menu instead of paste. Select only what you
want to copy.

You can do this in XL04 - when you fill down, a smart button pops up.
Select the "Fill without formatting" option.

In XL04 or XLv.X, when filling down, CTRL-click the fill handle, drag
down as far as you want, then release the mouse button and choose Fill
Values from the pop-up menu.

Great tip. Much easier than my Luddite method. Thanks

Lovely. Thanks.

(And I just bought XL04 so that way looks good too)
