Can I make a resource "Group"

P

ProjectAnalyst

I want to add the same 10 users to many tasks in a project.

Is there a way to create a "group" of some kind simplify the task
assignment?

If not it appears the only way is to use the copy/paste.

Any insights would be appreciated.

The approach I use is to enter that kind of information in the Group field
for each resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool. The Group field is very
flexible, and can be populated based on a company's resource management
needs. I generally recommend that the Group field be populated with team,
department, or skill information. Then, when I am ready to assign resources
to tasks, I do the following:

1. Click the Assign Resources button
2. Select the tasks to which the group of resources will be assigned
3. In the Assign Resources dialog, click the + button to the left of the
Resource list options to expand the Filter by options
4. Select the first checkbox in the Filter by section, click the Filter by
drop-down list, and then select the Group... filter
5. Type the name of the group you wish to assign and click OK
6. Select the resources shown in the dialog after applying the filter
7. Click the Assign button

Do know, however, that this method will assign each resource at the Units
value specified in the Max. Units field for each resource in the Resource
Sheet view. If you wish to assign the resources each with a different Units
value, then this approach will not work for you. Hope this helps.

Great stuff Dale. Once again you've saved me untold hours of fruitless
searching and experimenting. Adjusting the max units is a task I can pass
along to the Project Managers, so it might be the perfect solution..

Thanks!

The PM's can only adjust the Max. Units value temporarily in a project, as
this value is set permanently for each resource in the Enterprise Resource
Pool. Therefore, before a PM begins to assign resources to tasks, he/she
should set the Max. Units value for each member of the project team in the
Resource Sheet view of the project. This setting will be temporary, but
will remain as long as the project is open. He/she can then assign
resources using the method I described. After he/she saves and closes the
project, and then reopens it again later, the Max. Units value on the
Resource Sheet will be reset to the values in the Enterprise Resource Pool,
but the Units values set for resources assigned to tasks will not be
changed. I think that will meet your resource assignment needs. Hope this
helps.
