Can I prevent word locking up problem on other workstations?

I'm wondering if I can enter the registry key that this article:
See "Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015"
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918165

tells me to enter in everyone's computer even if they are NOT having the
problem. Employees have lost very important documents because of the problem
and I would like to prevent that from happening as much as possible. Will it
cause a problem on computers NOT having the problem if I enter the registry
key?

You're wanting to do this administratively? The best thing to do might be to
push out a patch that will perform the Registry edit for them if they find
they need it (and if they have permission to edit their Registry). Somewhere
in these NGs I've seen reference to a script that will do this, but I
neglected to make a note of the location because I'd already done the edit
manually (to no avail, I might add).
