Can I protect Section Breaks ?

I have created a template for others, but, it seems that frequently, people
inadvertently delete a Section Break . . . and that messes up the headers &
footers. Is there a way to prevent this? I tried to assign a style to the
Section Break and protect it, but that doesn't stop deletion. Help!

which version of Word are you using? And would the users expect to be able to
use Drawing Tools in the document?

I am running Word 2003 on an XP machine. No, the users will not need to use
Drawing Tools, just add/modify/delete text in the body of the document.

OK, in this case I'd try

Insert a Continuous section break at the beginning of the document

Tools/Protect document. In the task pane that opens, 2. step, select to protect as
a form. click the "Sections" button that will appear and protect only the FIRST
section as a form.

this should lock the headers and footers. Some commands (such as drawing tools)
will be locked out. In some instances (for numbering, for example) only toolbar
buttons will be available.

Thank you. I had read the instructions for protecting header/footer, but
didn't make the connection. I thought that would only prohibit the user from
opening/editing the header/footer information. I didn't realize that it
would protect the header/footer when the section break was deleted.
