Can I remove Office 97 but leave Access 97 & then install Office 2

Currently we run Office 97 Pro in our organisation but need to upgrade to Office 2000. Unfortunately we have hundreds of Access 97 databases, so my question is:
Can we upgrade from Office 97 to Office 2000, uninstalling all Office 97 components except for Access 97 and installing all Office 2000 components except for Access 2000?

If so how can this be done without firstly removing Office 97 completely, then installing Office 2000 then finally installing Access 97

You can certainly Uuninstall O97, but leave Access97, then do a custom
install of O2k without installing Access2K
Whether doing an upgrade install of O2k has the same possibilties I'm not
sure.
The MS advice is to install, or keep installed, any earlier version Office
apps prior to installing the later version I believe this is relevent to the
individual apps as well as complete suite.

You could of course also leave Access97 on yr sys, rename any Access
shortcuts, eg Access97, Then install the complete O2k suite, by custom
install into a different Folder.
You should take care if opening a file from Explorer that you open in
correct version of Access.
As at some stage you wish to migrate to Access2k, or produce db's in the
later version
