Can I reuse the project share point site?

Troy

Do to corruption, I am frequently required to save a project as and XML file,
delete the project from the server, then re import the xml project.

If I have issues/documents etc… associated with the share point project site
I would like to retain them when I republish the xml project.

Any ideas?

Yes, I am assuming you are talking about 2003 version. When you delete the
project you should always do it from the PWA Admin page. When you delete,
make sure the option is unchecked for delete associated workspace. This
will leave the workspace out there for you to re-attach to any project you
want. Make sure that you take note of the URL path to the SharePoint site
before you delete the project as it will be harder to find it again once it
is not longer associated to a project. After you create your new project,
if you have auto provisioning setting on, you will need to go to the WSS
administration page in PWA Admin and delete the empty site that was just
created and then create the association back to the existing site (this is
where the old URL that you noted down comes into play). All content will
still be there but any associations from issues, risks and documents to
tasks in the old plan will be removed.

Hope this helps,

Jonathan

Ben, my cousin --

I thought so, too, but could never get the process to work the way it does
in 2003. So sad...

Good for you, my cousin. I tried the same steps used in Project Server
2003, but it wouldn't work. Would you care to share the steps you used?
Let us know.

I didn't do anything magic, I just followed the following steps.

1. Note the sharepoint site in Server Settings | Project Workspaces.
2. Check teh radio button to allow users to manually create teh project
workspace in Server Settings | project workspace provisioning settings
3. Delete the project, but not the workspace in the Server Settings |
Delete Enterprise Objects
4. Create and publish a new project. Do not create a Project Workspace
5. Edit the site address of the Project Workspace for the new project to
match the one noted in 1 above, in Server Settings | Project Workspaces.

It links an old sharepoint site to a new project.

Odd. I had tried that a long time ago, and it didn't work. Perhaps I have
gone mad from trying to use Project Server 2007! :)

Ben,

Yes, it is the same in 2007, sorry for the confusion in my original response
to Troy.

Oh my, you two are family. I should have known, in hindsight the surnames
are _quite_ obvious :)

We are family in name only. My ancestors came to the USA from Great
Britain, so Ben and I might be shirt tail cousins. :)
