Can I safely delete unlinked files?

In the unlinked files report I have a whole bunch of unlinked files. these
are mostly .jpgs - I u mainly use my website to display pictures which I
change periodically.

The report states that unlinked files are 'files in the current web that
cannot be reached from the home page'. Does this mean that they cannot be
reached directly from the homepage or that they cannot be reached at all by
navigating through other pages via the homepage? I.E. I have deleted the link
but not the file (where I intended to delete both...

Some of the files do not seem to be on my website but others still seem to
be present, however It is possible that i may have created duplicates one of
which can be navigated to, the other can't. Can I safely delete these
unlinked files?

Thanks, Nick Wilson.

Unlinked files are those that cannot be reached using normal
(non-javascript, non Java) links starting from the home page. A file
will be "linked" if it can be reached in this fashion, even if the
links go through several other pages.
If you do not link to files using scripts then it is usually safe to
delete the unlinked files. Moving then (temporarily) to another
folder will soon disclose any broken links - if there are none the
files may be deleted.

I usually check graphics in the hyperlinks view ... if there are no blue
lines I save the graphic to a storage web site .. and delete from the one
I'm working on ..... that way I've got the graphics if I need them later
.....

note that any graphics within javascript will show up with no blue links so
you just need to remember which one's those are if you have any....

I have found the report for unlinked graphics not entirely accurate in the
past ... and so proceeded to do it the way I've always done it:)

If you don't care to save each of the graphics... before you start just back
up the whole images folder in one go to a storehouse web....

let me know if this helps

Tip now out is: Do you know how to Sort Text In A Table with FrontPage?
http://frontpage-tips.com/ - FrontPage Tips
They are primarily for FrontPage 2003 but will be good
for earlier versions too.
